What did you learn from your cruise?

My friends and I really want to go on a cruise vacation. We're just looking into it, and it seems like a better deal.

What advice would you give for someone about to go on a cruise. Something you didn't know? What you wish someone had told you? Etc.

  1. The minute you step on that ship, you are on vacation!

You will never have enough time to do everything there is to do on a cruise ship!

You will never have time to be board.

Some ships have high tea 4 PM.  Not just tea and crumpets, sandwiches, cakes, cookies, ice cream sundaes, fruit, etc.

If you dine at the late time you will be too full to enjoy the midnight buffet, and you sure do not want to miss that.

And it will take you at least 3-4 days to find your way around the ship.

It will be the best vacation you will ever have!

    Have a great time

  2. Pack less than you think you'll need, you'll spend alot of time in your bathing suit

Bring a power strip, they never have enough power outlets

Bring a small travel clock, some rooms do not have clocks

If you can afford it, definatley get a window, trust me

Try not to waste daylight, sun hours in the casino, you'll have time at night or if the weather is crappy

Have fun and try everything (spinning class, high tea, wine tasting)

Act silly, almost no one is going to know who you are so have fun

  3. I wish someone had told me not to have brought my hairdryer on board when I went on my first cruise aboard Regent.  Well, also check if the cruise you're boarding has "formal dining nights" sp you can bring formal clothes.  Good thing I had a satin dress during my first cruise which I only brought only because it was my favorite dress.  If you're planning on a little retail therapy, it's fun to shop at small markets on stop-over ports, so bring a little amount of cash or if you're going on a international cruise, know how much the dollar's worth in that country.

  4. I wish someone had told me about the weight gain, especially if you eat in the buffet. I learned later that by eating in the dinning room, you have less temptation in front of you and the portions don't get out of control. Also on Princess cruises the spa food is low fat and really good.
