  1. I'm a Banquet Manager in Philadelphia. The majority of cakes I have seen are Buttercream, round, 3 layers plus the top and cost anywhere between $3-$6 a slice (diameter of cake determined by size of wedding). If the wedding is very large, sheet cakes are provided, so as to preserve the wedding cake presentation. If they are small the bottom layer is made of styrofoam and decorated same as the rest of the cake. Fondant has to be peeled off before being served, which ruins the cakes presentation. Also, stay away from fruit filled cakes and carrot cakes. They also ruin presentation, as they are very difficult to cut.

  2. I had a three tier, four layer white cake with alternating chocolate fudge and raspberry filling in my three tiers.  It was butter cream and cost $250....in 1998.  We bought ours from a local kosher bakery.  Absolute divinity!

  3. I had a square 3 layer buttercream with buttercream in the middle...paid $1.50 per slice.  I think she gave me a little discount though since we went with buttercream instead of some sort of fruit.  She was one of those 'out of her house have to book way in advance b/c she only will do 1-2 cakes a week' type ladies.

IT rocked...we barely had any left :(

  4. I had a "Alice in Wonderland" style cake. Three tiers. top was round, bottom two were square. It had fondant on the outside and was three different flavours. Enough to feed 100 people. I beleive it cost $250.00 CAD in May 2007.

  5. Our cake was 3 Tiered with 2 other cakes on side with stares coming down to them. So 5 cakes in all. There were 3 dif. flavors and buttercrm icing  I think it was around $300 in 2002.
