this is my 2nd, and she weighed 6 llbs 7 ozs. that is sooo little. i am 5'7", and my prepregnancy weight is 160.......so i am average. my 1st weighed 7lbs 12 ozs a week and a half overdue. this time i was a week early (39 weeks), with a planned c section. my prenatel vitamins made me really sick, so i stopped taking those pretty early on and would supplement them with flinstones, and my dr knew. he said i would make up for it with my diet. i craved fresh food, like salads, and fruits, so i ate really really healthy and lite. she is healthy and doesn't even have jaundice. i am breastefeeding her too. so is there an explanation as too why she is so little?? i feel like it's my fault. because she is so little she is having a hard time breastfeeding, because prepregnancy my size is a DD so if you could imagine now, and her little mouth just won't latch on right.

  1. Don't feel guilty..... if you gave birth to a healthy baby and took good care of yourself...... there is no shame in that.

Some babies are just smaller...... girls are usually smaller then boys..... if your first was a boy.... then that is why your second is smaller.

Prenatal vitamins are not needed during pregnancy.... unless you are lacking something.  Eating a healthy well balanced diet is the best vitamins you can give your baby.

If she was born healhty.... then be proud of yourself.  6 lbs 7 oz.... really isn't that small.

My son was 2 weeks overdue and was 8 lbs 2 oz.  If I would have had him on time I am sure he would have been in the 6 lb range too.

As far breastfeeding.... if you are having trouble with latching because of the size of your b*****s..... seek out a lactation consultant.  They will be able to personally address your issues and find a solution for your problem,,,,,, whether it be a nipple shield..... or just showing you different latch techniques..... they will be able to help.

Don't be too hard on yourself...... you gave birth to a healthy baby.... and you should be proud....... hang  in there and best of luck with your breastfeeding..... you will both get the hang of it in no time

And congrats on your baby girl!

  2. That's not a small baby, please don't worry and stress out so much - she is perfectly healthy and her weight is fine, just think about all those tiny prem babies that do so well! Breast-feeding in the early weeks is terribly hard (I have three children and had different experiences with all - but every single one was tough in its own way!), especially if you have larger b*****s/nipples, and they are full of milk - it's like she's trying to suck a round ornage and she needs a pointy lemon! Try expressing a small amount to make your nipples easier to latch on to (not too much or you will make more milk and make the probelm even worse!). Don't give up, and don't feel down on yourself - mums have a lot to cope with, and always seem to feel guilty about something - you obviously love your baby and will care for her in the very best way.

My babies were 9lb 2, 9lb 10 and 8lb 6 - and the smallest one fed the best!

  3. My first one was an emergency c-section and he was 8lbs 8oz but he was full term, with my second one it was a planned c-section and it was supposed to be a week early, but they can't be completely sure that weeks are right, it can always be two weeks off, I think that is what happened to my girl because she was 6lbs 8oz and had a lot of trouble breathing,  but she is a very healthy four year old now. I was and am a DD size and had a little bit of trouble with feeding her, but I think it was also that I was nervous because she was so little. she got the hang of it in a few weeks but it had me worried for some time. I am sure if you keep it up she will latch on and be fine soon, but if you need help you can call someone form la leche league www.llli.org,

Don't feel it is your fault, you did everything right for your baby.

Oh I also had a third one (she is two now) and I ate and did the same for every pregnancy and the third one was 8lbs 8 oz too, so I guess it is the way that they are built too.

  4. my baby weighed 7 lbs 5 oz and 20 inches I was 41 weeks 2 days when I had her. Considering that, she was kind of small. Most overdue babies are like 8 lbs or more. I think 6 lbs is average for 39 weeks and sometimes no matter what you eat it doesnt matter size at birth is just hereditary. i was only 100 lbs when I got pregnant with her. (I'm only 5'2). I weighed 142 at the end, all baby as they call it. I was only a b cup pre-pregnancy and am now a c cup so my daughter has it easy with that. you could try bringing her head really close to your nipple and lightly pressing her head against the tip of the nipple to help her get latched, and leave it there for a few seconds until shes drinking.

  5. I weighed like 105 and then gained 20 lbs and lost a few before I had her (net gain of like 16)..so I was 121 when I gave birth..she weighed 6 lbs 13 oz. I breast fed (holy h**l, my breastfeeding size was dd...you poor thing!)...and just kept taking her to her well visits where her progress was charted. She did fine. Yours sounds fine ,too. As long as she's healthy. You may help her latch on a bit, not sure. I guess you could pump if it's really a problem, but I'd do that as a last resort. Ask your doc. Breastfed babies get a huge headstart in many ways. But I think babies gain more weight when bottle fed. I really would not sweat the weight as long as she's healthy and you can talk to your dr about her progress. Congrats! And don't feel bad about her being small, she'll grow, lol. Small isn't bad.

  6. I am 5'2" and normally 110lbs. My first was 8.5 lbs and my son was 10lbs ( no joke). Every baby grows differently and if she were still hungry you would know. If she seems happy and content don't worry about her weight. Your size will have nothing to do with the size of baby you give birth to. If that were true my babies would be 6-7 lbs and yours would be 8-10 and much longer than mine. I know it's hard as a new mom but don't worry so much and enjoy your baby. She will never be that little again

  7. My daughter was 7 pounds 6 oz in 1991 and my son was 9 pounds 10 oz this year.

I was also a DD pre-pregnancy and now I'm an F while breastfeeding. I chose to lay on my side in bed to nurse, that way I don't feel like I'm crushing him with b***s.

  8. That's not so little, its a good size.  My daugther is 3 weeks and she was 4 lbs 9 oz when born by c-section at 38 weeks but she was very healthy.  I took my vitamins but i didn't eat the best foods sometimes so don't beat yourself up for eating healthy.  Its not your fault she was just meant to be slightly small.  My daughter had difficulty nursing at first but now she is a pro.  She can nurse while I sleep.  She's still a lightweight though.  My pre preg weight was 155 and pre preg size was a DD too so I know you probably feel like you will smother her but you wont.

Here's how the nursing went for me.  First of all I did and still use a nipple shield, it helps the little mouths adjust.  While in the hospital, I dripped drops of formula on the mipple shield so she would realize that sucking on the shield would get her fed.  It worked a little but she still wasn't nursing well.  I would always give her a little pumped milk from a bottle so she wouldn't be too hungry then I would try to nurse, then I would feed her the rest of the bottle when she was too frustrated.  Then we hit another snag, she would start screaming anytime I tried to nurse her so I gave her a break and fed her pumped milk only for a week and a half then we tried nursing again and I don't know if it was cause she was older or what but that time it worked.

The lactation consultant told me to do breast massages while I nursed to encourage the flow of milk and make it easier.  She also said I could pump before feeding to encourage milk flow.  Also I knew my baby would get fed regardless because I had pumped milk so I wasn't stressing about it.  Basically I just had to learn to be patient and relax.  I really wouldn't blame myself if I were you, you're not at fault for her weight at all and she will learn to nurse regardless of the fact that she's small but I promise you 6lbs and 7 oz really isn't that small she'll make it up before you know it.

    Good luck!

  9. my son was a healthy 6lbs 11oz at birth and 6lbs 7oz when we left the hospital. that is actually an average weight considering all the 9 and 10 lbs baby being born. don't worry. she will get it..just keep trying and maybe seek the help from a lactation specialist

  10. My lil girl weighed 6lbs 9oz and thats big for me as i am only 4"11 :)

  11. ask ur doctor..but i think the average weight 4 a babby is 6lbs 7 ozs 2 7 ilb 11 ounces

  12. my 1st daughter was 8lb5oz(6days overdue)

    my 2nd daughter was 9lb4oz(+8)

    my 3rd daughter was 8lb6oz(+2)

    my 1st son was 9lb6oz(+1)

    my 2nd son was 9lb13oz(+5)

i think the weight of your baby at birth is due to your diet while pregnant and when the baby is born.

  13. My daughter weighed 7lbs 12oz at birth.  I started off at an average weight for my height and only gained 15 lbs so I was very surprised she was so big!

  14. My son weighed 8lbs 2 oz at birth, he was born 4 days before his due date. That is a large baby for me, I'm 5'0" and weighed 110 pre pregnancy.

  15. My daughter was 6lbs 14 oz and 20 1/2 inches long.   She was not to small, She was by a c-section and also my prenatal pills made me so sick. I was sick for the first four month non stop getting sick, but my doctor she she was in good weight. She is now 8 months old and she weigts 18 lbs  and they say she is just right. I wouldn't worry about her it will catch up to her......
