What different types of weed (cannabis) are there?

Can you tell me some? Is there a type called "shakes"?

"Shake" is the cheap stuff!  It consists of the leaves (as opposed to the resinous female flowers) of cannabis; therefore, it's low grade, on a par with the "headache weed" that grows wild in ditches in places like Texas, etc. (a remnant of the 1930s/40s hemp growing initiative).

Ergo, people can (and do) use leaves from the male plant for shake.

Cannabis sativa and cannabis indica are the two primary species. Growers are developing new strains all the time, so the number of those is hard to determine.
