  1. Nothing really.  "Ice" skating and "figure" skating are pretty much one in the same.  Personally, I think "ice skating" is sort of a generic term for any skating....recreational, etc.  "Figure" skating is a little more specific, referring to more advanced freestyle skating including jumps, spins, footwork, as well as synchronized skating, ice dance, pairs, etc.  The "figure" part would not include speed skating or hockey.


  2. Ice skating is ice skating. Figure skating is dancing and gymnastics on ice skates.
