  1. Almost anything. I love Greek salad!! Try some warm hummus and bread with the Greek salad. You'll be surprised at how filling it is!


  2. Salads are great with meats, but Greek salads are best with Lamb or baby cow...Or if you like chicken, try cornish hens instead and serve it with rice also.

    But you can always have normal rice and etc.

    My fiances step dad is greek and he has greek night.

    here is some good recipes from him-

    GREEK GRILLED GROUPER  

    2 grouper filet

    Greek seasoning (powder kind found in spices)

    1 small can stewed tomatoes (with garlic variety)

    1 small can chopped black olives

    Place fish filet in oil-sprayed (Pam) foil pan. Coat with Greek powder seasoning. Spread stewed tomatoes on top of fish filet. Sprinkle with Greek seasoning again. Top with chopped black olives. Lightly sprinkle with Greek seasoning again. (DO NOT SALT)

    Cover with foil and seal around sides of pan. Put pan on hot grill. Cook on medium head for about 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on thickness of fish filets. You may squeeze lemon juice on top after cooking if you desire a more tart tasting fish.

    This can be done with any kind of fish. Shark is excellent.

    GREEK LEMON CHICKEN  

    1-2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

    1 lb (500g) chicken thighs diced into 1" squares

    4-6 cloves garlic

    juice of one lemon

    5/8 cup (150ml) water

    1/2 tablespoon dried oregano

    1 teaspoon (generous) freshly ground black pepper

    3/4 cup rice

    Peel and crush or chop garlic, set aside. Chop and squeeze lemon and add to cup measure.

    Fill cup to 600-750 ml with water. Add olive oil to hot pan and add chicken when oil has begun to get hot. Brown chicken on all sides, approximately 5-10 minutes total, reduce heat.

    Add oregano and black pepper; stir into chicken mix.

    Add lemon/water mixture and stir gently till all is mixeed in. Simmer until most of the liquid has been reduced and all of the flavours have been combined, serve with freshly cooked/steamed rice.

    GREEK ORZO WITH BEEF  

    3 lbs cubed chuck

    1 large onion

    1 box orzo

    1 large can diced tomatoes

    3 tablespoons butter

    salt and pepper

    Chop onions and place into large pot. Add meat and add water so that it will cover the meat. Bring it to a boil and the reduce heat to medium and let reduce the water until there is nothing left.

    Add the butter and let it brown. Add the tomatoes and enough water to cover the meat. Add salt and pepper to taste.

    Bring to a boil and then simmer at low heat for 2 hours or until the meat is tender, adding water as needed. Stir occasionally.

    In a different pot, parboil the orzo. When meat is ready, mix with orzo and place it in a baking pan.

    Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand for 30 minutes and serve.

    Here is a greek dessert.

    GREEK DESSERT  

    1 jigger of whiskey

    1 1/2 c. milk

    2 1/2 or 3 pkgs. lady fingers

    2 tsp. instant coffee

    3 eggs

    1 tub of sweet butter

    2 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar

    Whipped cream

    Separate egg whites and then beat them until stiff, set them aside. Then blend together 2 cups of confectioners' sugar, the tub of butter and the egg yolks until creamy, then add instant coffee and whip until coffee dissolves. Gently fold in egg whites.

    In another bowl add milk, the rest of the confectioners' sugar and whiskey, mix and dunk lady fingers in and then squeeze out excess. Place them in a 9 x 13 inch pan, enough to cover the bottom of pan then put the filling on top of the lady fingers and then another layer of lady fingers. On very top put whip cream and then refrigerate at least 2 hours.






  5. I go to a Greek restaurant for the salad but also for the lemon/rosemary lamb chops, fried potatoes and steamed veggies.  Great combo!

    A flank steak

    Also things like pizza or a pita bread with hummus or tomato based sauces with feta cheese are wonderful and filling
