  1. It's likely east or west..  


  2. You can't tell from just the altitude.  The time of year, phase of the moon, latitude, and time of day all affect it.

    From the northern hemisphere you can eliminate north.  From your latitude, there are times when you can see the moon in the north, but never at an altitude of 18 degrees.

    I saw your earlier question.  What is it, exactly, that you're trying to figure out?  Give me some specifics and I'll see what I can do.  If you want to know exactly where the moon was, in the sky, on some particular date and time of day, I can do that for you.

    (You never downloaded the Stellarium software we talked about, did you?  Tsk, tsk.)
