I am trying to find the perfect cross over bike. Something I do not have to put on a trailer to go " PUTT " on logging roads and don't seem to find one with shaft drive. Do they even make a bike like that? This ol grandpa just wants to get down the road at tops of 60 MPH and be able to putt along on the back dirt roads. Not fast but with great MPG, dirt tires and street legal. Any ideas? Thanks

  1. no shaft drive dirt bikes

they do make a 2 wheel drive dirt bike

you know the perfect bike for you?

    a "URAL"

you can get one with the sidecar option and both back wheels have drive, you can ride that Ural thru mud and back roads and it will even go thru snow in the winter

  2. they don't make a on / off road with a shaft drive. a good on off road bike is a four stroke 250cc is good for putting around on

  3. Check out BMW's line of motorcycles, you may find some "semi"-off road bikes with shaft drive.

Get a BMW R80GS and ride round the world, make sure you get the crash bars because it is difficult to find a BMW cylinder head in Mongolia. They are old and difficult to find (the owners love them and don't want to be parted) but well worth the effort of finding one.

    There is also a 1000cc alternative – the R100GS
