Question:

What dishes were common for families to make in the 1930's?

My husbands grandpa is living with his parents,and was wondering if there was something I could make him that he might like better than the fusion "cuisine" I'm used to making all the time.

Oh, I forgot to add, southern dishes in the 1930's (Kentucky)

  1. fried chicken ,mashed potatoes , fresh Green beans from garden ,chicken dumplings,creamed tomato's over biscuits,

    lots of homemade biscuits fried potatoes.Baked steaks w gravy (i throw those in crock pot and then pour 1 can of mushroom gravy over it w a bit of milk.They come out very tender when you cook them all day in the crock pot.


  2. Blackeyed peas over rice, with cornbread

    or stewed tomatoes over rice with bisquits.

  3. Pot roasts, mashed potatoes with gravy and beef stews.
