How much longer will you be able to afford the long commute to work with the current high cost of petrol? What alternatives are you working on should the day come and you have to chose between diapers/food/shelter and gas/car maint./insurance/ etc.?

  1. 60 miles round trip for my location. Sometimes I have to go to corporate though at 140 miles round trip. When I have to go there I start and return to my regular working location so I can get mileage reimbursement.

  2. 40 miles one way. i average about 45 MPG on my harley, which helps quite a bit. and i recently ordered a tesla roadster, though i won't get it until the end of next summer. still, an electric car will save a ton of money in the long run

  3. Don't work wish I did. Waiting for a knee replacement. No1 I'd love a ride on your Harley, you can pick me up at the front door, I live In Australia lol

  4. 100kms one-way (about 60 miles). I drive a 4-cyl camry, which does okay on gas. I live at home, and am a student, with a decent paying part-time job (school is 100km/60mi from home... distance from school to job roughly 50km/30mi). So my expenses are pretty low... I can budget gas prices double from what they currently are now and still keep my general lifestyle... just means more overtime, fewer days off, and I'll be putting off that new Subaru for another year or two... :(

  5. 12 miles commute (each way), which is 24 miles roundtrip.

  6. I travel 15 miles each way, but now I take the train both ways.

  7. My work is 13 miles from home.  My current motorcycle turns in at least 35 mpg.  I spend about 15.25 US dollars a week in commuting costs.  I have worked 102 days this year.  I have commuted with my motorcycle 42 times.  Due to weather and my insurance I did not use bike January or February.  Started riding around March 12.  Many, many mornings temps were in the 30s F.  Rode home in the rain several times.  All this to save me from driving my 18 mpg van.

To combat future hikes in gas prices, I have a 650 cc dual sport just about ready for the road.  That bike will cover over 50 miles on each gallon of gas.  My gas costs will go down to around $10 a week.

I ride my bicycle for errands.
