  1. Paleontology is the study of ancient organisms, so I suppose you can file it under biology.

  2. The earth science that studies fossil organisms and related remains

  3. The Department aims to study the properties and relationships of minerals, rocks and fossils, to further our understanding of the origin and 4.6-billion-year history of the Earth and its biota. The collections comprise more than 70,000 rocks and minerals, and more than 80,000 fossils. These collections provide a valuable resource for furthering our knowledge of the natural world, through loans, visits, collaborative research projects and educational activities. In the International Deep-sea Drilling Project, the Department acts as an international research center, with a collection of 15 thousand microfossil slides. In addition to developing and maintaining the national collections, the Department's 13 permanent staff scientists lead diverse research projects, many of them at an international level. The scientists also assume an active role in the Museum's exhibition and educational programs, to promote public awareness and understanding of earth sciences. Together they are developing an electronic database to widen access to the information the collections contain. The answer you are looking for is geology probably.
