What do Americans call gas that you run your car on?

I don't mean the liquid petrol stuff, I mean the stuff that is actually a gas?

The other we call "Natural Gas"

Not too confusing because they are rarely used in the same context in the short forms.  (Discussions concerning several types of energy, for example, would use the phrase "Natural Gas" and the word gasoline to distinguish between the two.)

The call it "gas" just like everyone else. I have heard people refer to it a "petro", but I have always called it "gas".

We have gasolene.

You're thinking of petroleum gas. I don't know anyone who has it or uses it as a vehicle fuel, simply because mileage isn't great on it, and it would require serious engine conversion.
