I want to know whether Americans generally like us or not.

And for the record I love our relationship with America and can't wait to move to New York when I'm older.

So what's the general feeling towards the British across the pond?

  1.  I'm an American. At my school we have a couple of students from London and Scotland. What can i say? We like you guys. We're practically cousins, family, along with the Australians and the Canadians. The military is smart, we might have the bigger guns but you guys have more of the brains. Culture? I don't know, it okay i guess, but i don't know much about it. I think it's like ours. Hard to generalize. London is cool, but i wish it had more life in it. More like NYC but it a cool town. Olympics, you guys are gonna do great. I think it's good that it's all united, makes things simpler. The Queen is a pretty good monarch, she's seems like she can handle alot for her age. Your Prime Minister, i like his idea of a coalition with the liberal democrats. Image is smart and one of the world leaders. I'm glad to have an alliance with you guys. Your Empire has a big history, i like it's present more than the past. It did alot of bad stuff in it's past, my ancestors were some of the Acadiens that died in the expulsion, but hey, forgive and forget. You guys have cool smooth and clever accents.

  2. im british but im english first the scots dont really like us english funny enough i live in scotland and ma best friends are scottish there great but i hate it when other people in ma class take any chance to talk down about ma country i wish the could forget about over 100 years ago we all allies and all are united under the union jack i give every country the same respect as i would wont my own country given  :) but its fun when it comes to rubgy the rivalty is great.............. omg i sound like ssome grumpy arsehole  lol

  3. difficult for them to open up -protect their privacy-do not smile enough.
but they do have great accent-perhaps thats where the attitude comes from ..

  4. Hi! I'm doing a study on what people from other countries and cultures  think about Britain. If you have a few minutes, could answer a few questions for me (if you've been to Britain)
    Where you're from
Did you like you visit to Britain? why/ why not
Was there any parts of British culture/ tradition that you find really wierd?
If anyone, can quickly answer these questions for me, I'd be REALLY grateful

    Thanks :)

  5. What do you thin of british people

our traditions- Other then the sterotype that you stop for tea and crumpets at odd intervals of the day (we don't actually think you do this, it's more a friendly joke) most traditions I know of are interesting.

military- General consensus in the United States is that your military is phenomenal and most see British service men as brothers in arms.

culture- Well, we never got the soccer thing really... unlike the rest of the world lol.

    London- Beautiful.

London 2012- That will be a blast... I'm from Chicago and we want the 2016 Olympics.

our union under the united kingdom of wales, Northern Ireland, England and Scotland- LOL, honestly, most Americans cannot name all 4.  It's not that we are dumb, it's just that it isn't something we deal with on a day to day thing (kinda like asking you to name 50 states...) But those who do know about the UK will usually have no real opinion.

Our queen- Another subject you won't get much from... We know about the queen and can recognize her, but in my opinion, Princess Diana is much more known as a person to us.

Our prime minister- Gordon Brown? Well, he's not much talked about in general.  Americans are more concerned with domestic politicians (ie Obama).

Our image- Great ally and friend.

Our 8 minute section at the closing of the beijing olympics- Didn't watch... sorry! That doesn't mean Americans didn't though, just me.

our political stance- Once again, we see you as a strong ally and friend. As for domestic issues, I want to clear something up, I've heard that many Brits believe that the USA supports the Provisional IRA... this isn't true AT ALL.  It's horrendous when innocent people are killed by the PIRA and Americans (even Irish blooded Americans like me)find the few civilians in the USA who supplied funds illegally to the PIRA to be atrocious.

our alliance with America- The Brits are our most beloved allies.

Our empire (past and present)- Well, you won't find much support for the British attempt to hold onto it's North American colonies lol, but it's not like we sit around discussing the old British empire much... Don't think you guys do it either, do you?

The fact the queen is still head of state of many countries- Indifferent.

our accents (we don't all have the same accent you know)- Neither do we!I can't tell you how funny it is when a Brit thinks we all talk like California Surfer Bums. The general idea of the British accent is a sophisticated (posh as you say) upper class one... or the extreme opposite (cockney I think is what you call it) "Shine yer' shoes gov'ner?" lol.  It's all just in good fun though, your accents are beautiful.

I want to know whether Americans generally like us or not.- Very much yes.

And for the record I love our relationship with America and can't wait to move to New York when I'm older.

So what's the general feeling towards the British across the pond?
