What do Americans think about middle eastern cultures and people?

That they are humans as we are and that there is good and bad as here.

As an American, We should treat all people  with respect and common courtesy  No matter what part of the World they come from. unless they try to hurt us. Americans do not have to agree  or share in their beliefs and we shouldn't be afraid of their beliefs,but for some reason we  are and so,when we don't understand we feel a need to  try to destroy others and their culture , we do it through words first and then we start disrespecting them as humans and then we find reasons to take their dignity away and make them feel that they are not our  equals,. read our history and you would understand how we do things here. and that is the American way.

Many lump them all together. For instance, if you ask many americans why they support a pre-emptive attack on iran, they will cite 911, even tho iran had nothing to do with 911.

in general, I think Americans think positively of the people themselves, and the culture in general----the "problem" comes in when violence and terrorism and intolerance (often from both "sides") intrude on the person-to-person relationships.

As a 60 year old American, I can honestly say I was taught to never hate. I could dislike a person, but not a whole group of people. I feel sorry for most of the people in the Middle East because of all the wars going around them. Also, for the lack of freedoms they have in their own country. I am Jewish and if you have ever heard the expression "antisemitic" you would know that it means Jews and Arabs. We are the same peoples. I don't care what religion, race or culture a people have. I just wish them peace.

I was afraid to click on this question simply because I thought I would encounter an array of hate and ignorant statements. I guess I underestimate at times Americans as a whole for their tolerance and understanding. I respect the middle eastern cultures and its people to the utmost. It's a disgusting shame how the media and ignorant political leaders use our differences  to turn us against each other. We must not let ourselves be blinded!
