I think he used to be considered a guy that didn't leave the UK, so now he has, what do you think of him?

  1. He's a guy who only left the UK once. Chose the biggest name fighter with the least risk he could find. Plans to retire after only fighting twice in the US-- and considered himself a legend after beating 43 bums and 1 >B fighter. Now after beating 1 former A fighter and 1 B fighter he considers himself one of the greatest ever.  I think he's a joke- who in reality would've been a decent fighter had he stopped talking out of his as$ and made a choice to actually fight good fighters and put himself out there like anyone who truly believes in themself would.

  2. he is a great boxer, but i was not impressed; that the hopkins fight was so close....

bernard is 43, if this fight happened 6 years ago hopkins would have won...but i have always liked joe...

  3. I agree with Elmer and I like Calzaghe what,s not to like he is a very smart fighter and very determined and a very good tech in the ring . I was really impressed when he beat the undefeated American fighter I can,t remember his name but I was sure Calzahe would lose that fight well as we all know now Calaghe destroyed him. Is he the best I,ve seen no far from it . He does not make my top 10 in any weight class but he is a really good fighter.

  4. Joe is a good fighter, not great though

  5. I personally think Calzaghe is a great fighter.  The fact that he beat Hopkins on Hopkins' home turf (the US) proved that.

I just wish Calzaghe would have fought some of the great American fighters when he (and they) were a little younger so that there was no doubt about how good he is.  I think he would have done well against any and all of them and I would have paid to see him fight them (as would many other Americans IMO).

I don't even care if he fought them in the US, Britain, or anywhere else - I just wish he would have fought them period.  Part of Boxing's problem in general is that they don't force the greatest fighters to fight each other when it matters.

  6. Well, I wish he would start fighting in the States more, but he did prove alot with his fight with Hopkins.

  7. Who?

  8. he is a great fighter and it was smart of him to make it to the states earlier on in his career than others have. It would be great to see him fight here more.

  9. Fighting a 43 year old middleweight isn't exactly a big step in his first fight out of his comfort zone.  Even with that, he still tasted the canvas.  Still a protected fighter until he steps in against a top guy like Pavlik or Taylor.  He did get the job done against Hopkins, congrats on that.  But I felt he should have won the fight 12 rounds to zero, similar to how Larry Holmes dismantled Ali.
