What do English people think of David Beckham?

I'm just wondering what English people think of Beckham.

Do they like him or hate him?

And do English people think he is an cultural icon of England?

he cant be faulted for his passion for the game and the dedication he gave to the english national team. he was also solid for man utd. he was never world class but on the odd occasion like against greece he really pulled it outta the bag. in the end, he was a pro and worked hard, didnt act like a prima donna, and thats all a footballer can be expected to do. his life outside football is none of my business and i dont care, personally

I think he isn't good enough to play for England, he never was the 'world class' player he was made out to be, and he only gets into the England team on his name and lifestyle. I don't like or dislike him because I don't know him :)

I don't see him as a representation of England on a footballing level, but I guess he is somewhat an icon when it comes to fame and money.

He is really hot and a modest guy, and yea people do respect him he done a lot for the english game, he opened an academy for kids to train to be footballers, and he's the guy that bought the upcoming Olympics to london in 2012. He is also a great ambassador.

The mans got more money than he knows what to do with,so that makes me jealous straight away,i don't hate him but i cant say i like him either,but in his prime you couldn't fault what he did for our national team especially that goal against greece,but if i have to be honest i have to say he's a bit of a dik ed for the things he wears,i think daft victoria dresses him though,i also admire him for doing Rebbecca loos,you cant blame him for that can you.
