Question:

What do I NEED to know for Calculus success?

I'm returning to school after being out for quite a while. I took all of the classes leading up to Calculus (trig, pre-calc, etc), but it's been so long I don't remember a ton. What stuff is absolutely critical to my success in calculus? What should I review? If you could be specific with which equations or principles are critical that would help.

Thanks!

  1. Plane Geometry, Analytic Geometry, Solid Geometry, and Trigonometry,

  2. Well it would depend on what type of calculus your talking about. Such as for high school calculus all you would need is a good understanding of fundamental  Algebra and Trigonometry, But for college calculus courses such as Advanced concepts in Calculus and Vector calculus you would need more preparation like Analytical geometry or Calculus and Geometry.

  3. It depends on the class structure and how you are as a learner. If the class is well taught and you are perceptive enough, you NEED to know nothing.

    It helps to know:

    basic arithmetic

    trigonometric functions and identities

    concepts of a formal proof

    concepts behind functions and graphing

-common functions (e.g. trig, exponent, polynomial, log)

-how to define a function through a formula
