I just won this goldfish at a carnival and I know its not going to live long, but I put it in this circular vase thats around 4in. (hard to tell cuz' its round) but anyways, I was wondering if I need to put like, pebbles at the bottom or a plant, something hollow that it can swim in and out of, etc.

  1. I would put some gravel/pebbles and maybe a little fake plant.

  2. yes it needs to have rocks at the bottom.but you don't have to have a plant on the bottom.but put a tunnel or something like that.

  3. just add water

  4. Do not buy another fish.  It is bad enough you condemned this one to dying a slow painful death in a bowl.  It will live long if you don't stunt it's growth and slowly torture it in a bowl.  If you don;t want to invest in a decent tank, and it sounds like you really don;t care about this fish, which can have personality and show recognition for it's owner, and live over 40 years, then just let the poor thing die and never get a fish again.

  5. a fish bowl of any sort. some dec. gravel or pea sand. you can put plants and decos in it if you want. but dont haveto

  6. You're only assuming it won't live long because you are used to seeing goldfish that are kept in those tiny bowls.  A common goldfish will grow 12" long and live up to 40 years if cared for properly.

You would need a minimum of a 50 gallon tank with excellent filtration to house it properly.  At this point unless you are willing to upgrade to a proper tank then it really doesn't matter what you do with the fish.  It is going to live a short and unpleasant life in that little bowl.

  7. yeah... you should put in pebbles... and a little plant type thing. you also need to get food so the little guy can survive!

  8. You will first need to rehouse your fish.  Since most carnivals no long hand out comets they (that I noticed are all fancy's) will need a larger bowl than 4 inches.  These types of fish usually live around 8-14 years with proper care.

In the bowl you have him in now, no pepples and no plants and no decorations.  He needs as much space as you can give him.  No other fish either.

Without investing lots of money, and just a suggestion, walmart sells a 10 gallon tank kit complete with everything you need for $24.  Not a large investment for a fish.  It was just a thought.

Just be sure to change out 1`/2 of the water in his bowl at least once per week.  Don't forget you will need to get a water conditioner as well.
