What do I add to a piece of material that is fading?

I purchased a piece of cotton material, it is wine plaid and I washed it (new) and it faded. I want to use this material as the front for a cream colored backing on a quilt. Can I wash it with something to se6 the dye?

You could try a product called Retayne.

Test the fabric afterward to be sure it doesn't still run. It would be a shame to have it bleed onto the backing.
