  1. I would echo what everyone else said, but also bring a light jacket-- it can get chilly during a cruise during the winter and even spring months due to the speed of the boat and being out on the open water... if you want to stroll around on the boat at night and go out of hte open decks, you will definately need one! I learned that the hard way!!!

  2. You should take your normal toiletries and be sure to include sun screen.  Your cruise will likely have one (for 5-day) or two(for 7 day) formal night so take some dress up clothes.  The dress is otherwise casual.  After 6:00 Pm they request that you dress sports casual (like what you would wear to work in an office) in all of the public places like the casino and show room.  No shorts or swim wear after than in those places.  Do take swim wear and if you plan to use the gym, clothes for that too.  Take good walking shoes.

Your cabin will have a safe but you may want to get a pouch or some thing to secure your passport and money inside your clothes while in ports to guard against pickpockets.

  3. Everything that the people above listed is great, just remember DO NOT OVER PACK! I took a cruise last April and ended up bringing 75% of my clothes back clean. I'm not sure if you will have many days at sea but when you do, you just end up wearing your swimming suit all day. Also, remember to bring a couple of dressy outfits as dinners are usually business casual and/or formal and tons of sunblock.

Hope you have tons of fun! I know that I did.

  4. Best thing to do is check the weather and plan from there.

You may want to take some spring/summer clothes, but again check the weather and plan accordingly.

  5. Minimum 2 bathing suits (hate to put on a wet suit), cover up, flip flops for "sea days".

Shorts/capris/tanks or T-shirts for shore excursions.  Sneakers with socks.  Check out the shore excursions on your cruise line's web site.  I went horseback riding and was glad I had worn jeans to board the ship...otherwise I wouldn't have had any.

Exercise outfits, with hoodie (yes, for the gym -- gotta keep the weight off!).  Plus they're good for running around inside the ship during the day.  Remember, it may be hot outside, but inside it's airconditioned!

Several nice outfits for dinner.  Most ships have 1 or 2 formal nights and you'll see everything from cocktail dresses to formals.  (don't forget your shoes, you'll look silly in that "little black dress" with your flip flops or sneakers!)  The other nights are more casual, but ships frown on jeans in the dining rooms (think, would I wear this to church?)

A beach bag for hauling your stuff up to the pool deck (coverup, suntan lotion, book, ipod, etc.)  Extra bag to tote home all the things you buy on shore (T-shirts for Aunt Sally, carved coconut shells that look like monkeys, yes - you'll buy them.)

And check out the airlines policy on bringing liquids on the plane... if you want to bring back booze, you'll need to know if you will have to ship it home or carry it on the plane.

If you don't want to bring a different outfit for everyday, remember, they have "do it yourself" laundry service on board.  You can wash your clothes (think about packing premeasured laundry detergent in ziploc bags and some dryer sheets.)  One 7 day cruise I managed to forget all my shirts and although I bought a couple on the ship, and in port - I was still short for a couple of days.)

Think about what you'll wear going home, and pack accordingly.  Put that outfit up when you get in your cabin, and don't wear it.  You'll be happy!
