Could it say I have diabetes if I ate alot of sugar before I had the test?

  1. Check your blood sugar.  Remember what you ate previously.  The ones at the store are good to help you understand.

  2. No you can't buy the test in a store.

You have to be fasting for 8-10 hours before having a Fasting Blood Sugar test or a OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test)  and they have to be examined in a professional lab setting using special testing equipment

An A1c test, home testing with a glucose meter or the Glycomark test will not be sufficient for a diagnosis of diabetes.

I find it incredible that diabetics are suggesting that the A1c test is accurate enough for a diagnosis of diabetes when they know it isn't and it's even more incredible that some doctors actually use those results to make a diagnosis.......They should have their license to practice medicine pulled.

  3. You can now buy a test kit at the pharmacy that will give you your A1C.  But the best way is to make a morning appointment with your doctor so he can draw blood and do a urine test on you.  Yes, eating before your test will make some of the testing read higher than they should, but your A1C will still tell them if you are diabetic, because it will show an average of your blood sugar levels for the last 3 months.  Do not eat or drink before you have your testing done.  Make an appointment for early morning so you aren't extremely hungry.

  4. You need to go to the doctor and he will do blood work on you.  You can test your blood sugar at home--with the right equipment--but that will not tell if you are a diabetic.

  5. Check out with the blood glucose monitors.

  6. Go to your family dr. they will do blood work, and they can test your urine to see if sugar is spilling over in your kidneys..
