What do I do? My mom wants me to study on my free time

I'm 14 and

my mom always says that if i don't study, it's a waste of time...

i finish my homework, i usually do it very quickly, so she thinks i didn't do it. then after, i go on the computer, she says that it's a waste of time and there's no point. She wants me to 'concentrate' on everything i do.

she tells me to think of homework like it is playing the computer.

i cant seem to make it seem like playing computer

it's like going to a restaurant to eat a plate of poo instead of going to an Italian restaurant.

what do i do? please help Thank You Very Much

If you are getting good grades, then point this out.  If you aren't getting good grades, then study like your Mom says.

Your mother needs to understand that if you do not get any rest from working so hard, you could suffer from a nervous breakdown. I've been down that road before. It is not pretty to spend all your time working.

Why not just show your mother your homework and have her check for correct answers? Or just show her your next report card or progress report. You sound like a pretty smart kid. You deserve some time off.

Or if possible, try joining academic or extra-curricular activities relating to coursework. Not only will you be occupied, your mom will not think you are wasting time if it is academically related.

As for computer time, try reading a book instead. Don't become an internet junkie.

you are entering a critical stage of you core academic period....

you admitted you didn't do well in 8th grade.........

now you have four years of high school that will determine what kind of college you go to and what kind of life you will have.........

s***w off now and your life will be c**p.........total c**p

the end of hs you'll get a dead end job with c**p pay and won't be able to support yourself or you family.........

listen to her.....pay the price now.......study..........it won't be long that you'll be getting up and going to work for some assh*le every day.....just like the rest of us.......pay the price now.....study...it's cheaper than paying later.........

You remind me of my friend and his mom. He does his homwork and gets straight A's and his mom always thinks he's not doing his homework for some reason.

And if she thinks the computer is a waste of time I have news for her. I've learned more things about the world over the internet than I have in school my whole life. School doesn't teach you anything you need to know.

I'm not going to tell you what to do, but let me just say this. "Never let anyone ever try to teach you something you don't want to learn" That includes everyone. Your parents, your teachers, your friends. If you do let them, you will regret it later, trust me.

I went through something almost like this. As long as you do you're work you have nothing to worry about. Every night you should at least take an hour or two doing your homework. I didn't but then I decided to check it again and get ahead on something else like in a book or something...

You don't say how your grades are.  If you are a straight A student, then you have something to gripe about.  Either you are a freshman or you are going to be a freshman this year.  If this is true - your mom is right.  You have reached the point where grades REALLY matter.

This is about YOU having options in life.  Good grades will not only get you into college, they will get you into the college of YOUR choice and they may even get you a free ride.  Consider that anyone making less than 100,000 dollars gets a free ride to Harvard University - if they can get accepted.  There are similar situations at a lot of Ivy League Schools.

Is the computer game going to get you a job where you will have lots of freedom and a good income (not that those things make you a good person - they just give you lots of options in life).  

Now, if you ARE a straight A student, then you have the time to slack off.  Work isn't fun hun.  But it has a pay off in the end.  But really, it is your life.  You can settle for whatever will be handed to you or you can work your butt off to end up with choices.

haha i like your comparison.. you should do your homework in front of them so they know you did it; also when you study, do it in front of them (even if you're just staring at a book) If it looks like you're making an effort and doing well in school they'll ease off and you can ask for a break for free time or w/e

and be on the computer and have on page tab named like a research site

so make it seem like your doing homework online

She is just wanting you to work hard. I will assume that because you finish your work so quickly, she is thinking that you didn't work hard on it, that you breezed right through it...as opposed to spending your time on it, concentrating, and learning it well. If what you are doing is working (as in getting good grades)...I would probably be on your side, if you are lacking in good grades, I'm sure your mother is only trying to encourage you to make more effort in raising your grades. If that is the case, maybe you should give it a try.

well your mom obvious wants you to lead a successful life. my mom always tells me that her job is to support me and the family, and my job is to be successful in school because if your successful in school you will be successful in your future. my mom always tells me if you work hard as a child, you wont need to work hard when you grow up. If you dont work hard as a child, you will have to suffer when you grow up.

Actually they start counting grades for college in Middle school. If your mom doesn't believe you did your homework show her. Tell your mom that you are still young and need to be social and homework is NOT social and that it's been known that kids at your age show signs of depression when there's a lack of social activity. Well .. just make it seem like you're spending that bit longer on your homework. Don't tell her you're finished it until way after you actually have, worked all the time for me..

Or say your going to study somewhere quiet & actually do something you want to do. I know it's lying.. but it's only a little white lie.

Well you really need to focus on school first. I know by mistakes i have already made. Thinking that i can do something else to make up for my grades but, it is going to fast. Now I'm stuck trying to get good grades my junior and senior year so i can go onto college and be successful. Always study even if it's something you don't want to do because later in life it will help you.

OMG i feel your pain!!  my mom does the same thing! i get in trouble if i dont study over the weekend and i do the exact same thing i finish my home work fast she thinks i didn't do it all or to the best of my ability... it sucks.. but what i usually do is i go on the computer and type my home work and then i minimize that and do what ever i want on the computer and when she comes in i just bring that page up and make it look like iam working... or like late at night i sit in my bed and like when i want to text and she says shes going to take my phone away i put it under my sheets and put a school book on top of my lap and when she comes in it looks like iam studding... its good cuz i do what i want and it makes it look like iam doing what she wants... i mean over the weekend and stuff i have so many other things i would rater be doing like hanging out with my friends.. so i understand where your coming from and i hope maybe some of the things i do you can try!! and if all fails i guess you could just study.. even though its still summer!! good luck!!

your mother sounds like a control freak.

how are your grades? if ur doing well just the way you're doing it... i don't see what the problem is... there is after all, such a thing as over doing it.

if your grades are in the toilet, i understand your mom being on your case.

no... i don't really think there's a way to make your HW as entertaining as a comp (unless you're a serious nerd).

fyi now i want italian food
