I don't know what to do about my mother. She is very disorganized, and can't throw anything away. We were cleaning out the pantry (against her will), and we found a can of vegetable juice that expired back in 1997. I don't know why she even bought it, no one here likes vegetable juice. Still she didn't want to throw it away. I don't want to get kicked out of the house, but it is becoming a real big problem.

  1. Just be there to help her keep on top of the hording.

Lets be honest if it was that bad, she wouldnt allow you to throw anything out.  So I think what you are doing in right.

Sometimes when you look into the past of someone who hordes it is because they didnt have lots when they were younger.  So it makes them worried to bin what they have got just in case they are put in a similar situation.

ps - Also sometimes we just forget to clear out the cupboard thoroughly.  I work 55+ hours a week, and cant be a**ed to spend the few other hours Im not at work just cleaning and tidying - so it could just be that she hasnt had chance.

    xx.

  2. "Orginization for Dummies" is a great book - tons of ideas for getting organized around the house, the garage, closets etc....
