What do I do about carpenter ants in my house?

I have carpenter ants in random parts of my house,and would like to know a way to get rid of them without damaging much.

if they're individuals, they're scouts.  the main nests are usually outside, but looking to move in. You didn't describe the house or location, but this link advises to follow them back to their nests (as if) and some other things.................
