After I graduate in 2009 I have plans on going to a community college so that I can become a RN. I am really beginning to stress out because if im understanding correctly in order to be accepted into the nursing program you have to have a high gpa.Right now my gpa in high school does not look very good. So i am wondering if there is a way that I can raise my gpa when I attend college so that they wont look at the one from high school. If so how do I go about doing it. Also do i have to take the sat in order to go into this field? Please answer my questions and tell me all the other steps I have to take so I can reach my goal!!

  1. You want to become a RN so that usually means the following:

    - Attend some institution(university or state college) and take all of the classes required to enroll into Nursing Schools.

    - In taking those classes, you would want to make a great impression by getting good grades by knowing the subject well and also by communicating with the teachers more. This will improve chances for letter of recommendations and etc.

Some universities have Nursing programs in which you can actually obtain a degree/license to become a RN. For example, Cal State Long Beach is a state university that has a Nursing program for students who want to become a nurse.  They have a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Nursing so that way you can become more than a Nurse....(you can be a nursing administrator or manager in the future)

As for grades, just forget about your High school grades for now.  They arent as important as your college grades.  So there you go, finish High school and research on the colleges around your area for some good Nursing programs.  Good Luck...

  2. Almost every college you apply to out of high school will want you to have a standardized test. For the other questions it all just depends on what community college you are looking at. Some places will let students in will almost any test scores, GPA, etc. while others have tighter standards. Your best bet is to go straight to the source and call up the admissions office at the college and ask them. From my experience, they will be very willing to answer and questions you might have about test scores and things like that. Good luck.
