This is really annoying. I have had this phone number for 10 days, and I am receiving about 5 calls a day from a 800 number. When I answer I recieve a dial tone, when I try to call it back it says all circuits are busy.

I work nights and I cannot have these phone calls anymore. How can I stop it?

I tried doing a reverse lookup on the number and it says "no business found".

Please help!!!!!

  1. It is illegal for a business to call a person and hang up. It is illegal for a business to call a person multiple times a day. The bad news is it may take months to correct. First you have to find out who they are and why they are calling you. If its a collection company(most likely) then... If you can find out who it is and where they are located you can send them a form letter to cease and desist also have them send you the information on who originated the loan (sometimes you can talk to these people(you can find the form letter on the web)).  This seems to work. Otherwise you need a lawyer. I tried to file a complaint with the government without results. I later found out that the company had thousands of complaints against it and is still in business(so much for the government protecting the rights of the people).

  2. Most modern cellphones have a "Black list" of sorts, in wich you can put telephone numbers that wil, subsequently, be ignored.

I've used this trick a couple of times myself ;)

Usually, it'll be in the manual of your cellphone.

  3. I'm on DoNotCall and I still occasionally get the same thing as you.  There is another website called whocalledus that will likely have that number, along with the company's name, and comments from other people who've gotten bothered by them.  The problem is...I can't remember if it's whocalledus.com or .net or .whatever.  Maybe if you google it you'll find it.

  4. I was going to say to put your number on the Do Not Call List. You'll just have to wait for that to take effect. Besides those telemarketers who have to adhere to the DNC list, it could be a bill collector. Get your credit report and find out if you owe someone money. If you do, get in contact with whomever it is and find out how you can pay them back, and if they've been calling you. Also, you could contact your phone company and find out how to block this number from calling you. If none of this work, I'm afraid you'll have to either change your number, or see if it goes away by itself. I know this doesn't help much, but it seems its all you can do.
