My cat has a bladder stone. he has feline urinary disease. Where his bladder makes crystals well he is on special food to stop the crystals. However, he has a bladder stone now which can only be fixed with surgery. The surgery costs $800 the vet bill today was $200 So by the time all of this is done ill be spending about 1000-1100 for him to get treated. They cant cure these stones they just come when they want. It could be monthly yearly or never again who knows.

Anyways, they do not accept payment, the credit card they have I got declined for even with a co-applicant. And noone can borrow me the money.

The no-kill shelters around here are full and the ones that arent wont take him because he wasnt adopted from them *whats the point of having a no-kill shelter then?

The humane society said they wouldnt be able to treat him and would have to euthanize him.

What do I do?

  1. Sweetie I know how you feel.  You have to find a way, if you love your cat you have to find a way, that's your baby.  Can you get a loan from work?  or your parents?  Try calling ASPCA and asking them, there has to be something that can be done for this cat.  I'm really sorry to hear what you and your kitty are going through. I wish you lots of luck.  God bless

  2. I can't believe that a vet wouldn't make payment arrangements with you.  If so, I would just keep trying various vets and take the one who will accept monthly payments.  There just has to be one.  Afterall, they would be earning interest.  Good luck.

  3. Have you heard of Care Credit? When my kitty was diagnosed with cancer, I found this company that offers financial assistance in the form of a credit card, but for healthcare issues only (medical, dental, and even Veterinary!) Here's the link: http://www.carecredit.com/. They are a reputable company (general motors, if my memory serves me), and if you charge in incriments of either $200 or $300, you can avoid interest for three months (very helpful). My kitty's bills were well over $3,000, so I desperatley needed the financial assistance. I'm so sorry to hear of your kitty's condition, and completely understand. I love my kitties with all my heart and would do just about anything for them. Good luck.

  4. Wow, I'm so sorry.

    Can you find another vet?

It's ridiculous that they wouldn't be willing to work out a payment plan.  Many vets will and some may be cheaper.  Try to call around to some other vets and explain the situation.  If you find a different one then get copies of all his records from the old vet.

Beyond that, I agree to try to raise or borrow money from anyone you can.   Keep at it.  Best of luck!

  5. hold a fund raiser, sell things you don't need or use anymore.

and with that CareCredit deal, you have to have really good credit.

i have tried it more than one time, even with a co-applicant, and still didn't qualify for it

  6. Have a jar or something with a picture of your cat & what needs to be done written on the outside of it asking for donations.  Some people care enough that they will give you donations so that you don't have to euthanize it.

Go around to businesses (stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc.) and ask them if it would be okay if you put your donation jar at their register.  Most of the time if people get change back they will put it in the jar for you.  It may not seem like much at the time, just spare change, but it adds up faster than you would think.

  7. I'm not a cat expert, but one thing you could do is fund raise.  You could also get an extra job part time or work overtime.  Another idea is to open up a yard sale, go to a flee market and set up a table, or go to a used clothes store and sell some of your old clothes.

  8. I'm so sorry about your kitty. I'm going through a similar situation with one of my cats. I've had to use my credit cards and some of my savings. Pet care is very expensive.

In addition to http://carecredit.com/, check the sites below for more fund-raising ideas. I've not used any of these sites/organizations, but it's worth the try. I sincerely hope everything turns out well for you and your cat.

  9. Well you could have a garage sale, car wash, or even a bake sale. If you do one of those three things say why you are doing what you are doing. Say it is to help raise money for you pet's surgery. Some people may even give a little extra. Just find ways to raise the money.

    Goodluck!
