Question:

What do I do during a tornado watch?

I know what a tornado watch is, but what exactly should I be doing during it? The sky is a mix of light and dark gray, it's not raining, and the only basement we have access to is our neighbor's. My parents don't seemed phased by it, but we're originally from NY so we're not used to them. Last time we had one it was only minutes before it started pouring and one was spotted about a mile away from us, but we were still in a watch.

I asked one of my friends and all she texted back was say "watch for tornados, lol." So...Can someone give me a real answer, please?

Oh, and I don't have a weather radio, just the TV on the news.

  1. Thats pretty funny because I saw that question and was actually going to give you the same answer your friend did!

Your friend is actually right, all a watch means is that present conditions are like those that are known to spawn tornadoes.  So be on the watch for them.

  2. fly a kite.

  3. I would suggest pack up clothing, belongings, pets (excluding fish), and food.  Plus call your neighbors if you can come to their house just in case to be safe.  Always be prepaired for a tornado watch and tornado warning.

  4. Basically a Tornado Watch means that conditions are right for a tornado to develope. so you should be prepared to move to a place of safety should one develop.

A Tornado warning means that there is tornadic activity detected by radar or a storm spotter has observed a funnel cloud (a tornado that hasn't touched the ground yet) or that there is a tornado on the ground and you SHOULD MOVE to a place of safety.

  5. watch for tornadoes
