  1. Go into BIOS and check if the touchpad mouse is selected. I had one that I had to reset many times. You can use the Tab and Arrow Keys to navigate, if need be.

  2. Something may have gone wrong with the driver and it may need reinstalling.

First though with this sort of problem is just to try restarting your computer because some things can stop working for no apparent reason and then work again after restarting.

If a restart doesn't work, and you can't find anything about restoring drivers on your Programs menu (Start --> All Programs --> and then Dell probably or Drivers or System repair or something of that kind) go to Dell and find the downloads area.  Follow the prompts to choose your laptop model and you'll be given a list of drivers, one of which will be for the touchpad.  Download to your desktop and then you probably double-click and follow the prompts - that's the usual way to get things happening.  If it unzips files to a folder instead of walking you through installing the driver, you need to go to the Device Manager, highlight the mouse in the list and then click Properties.  That gives you a box where you can choose "Update Driver" and you can follow the prompts and show it where the files were unzipped to.

You can often tell if something is wrong with a driver by right-clicking on My Computer and choosing Properties.  Then choose the Hardware tab and then Device Manager button.  When the Device Manager opens, if anything has a yellow exclamation mark against it, it has a problem.  But sometimes a driver has gone wrong and you won't see any sign in the Device Manager.

  3. honeslty first off reinstall the driver.  second if that does not work repost here again. it is prob the driver or a hardware issue. if it is a hardware issue.  u should prob go out and buy a wireless mouse. cause the proce to fix a touch pad is not worth the hassle
