My sister is with a man who is controlling, mentally and possible physically abusive. Smokes and deals weed inside the house. She has a 6 month old baby with him and feels that if she stays things will get better. Well...it hasn't. Many times I've called the cops but she just lies to the cops or goes back to him. Recently she has admitted to having thoughts of killing herself. I want to report it but to who and how. What do I do?

  1. You can encourage her to see a doctor or therapist, even offer to pay for the session or drive her there or watch the baby so she can take care of herself.  Encourage her and the baby to come stay with you for awhile.  Abused women are prone to suicide, so it's a very real possibility.

You can also call Child Protective Services and alert them to the problems in the house - abuse, drug dealing, suicidal thoughts.  Tell them you are concerned that the father might hurt the baby next, or that the mother will neglect the child while hurting herself.  It's a way to get authorities involved without calling the cops or having to prove a specific crime.

You can't force your sister to wise up, but you can be a "safe place" for her to come to, and you can be a reminder that there is a way out of this situation when she's ready for it.

  2. What you can do is take her to your local hospital to the ER. And they can do a mental health Eval. and sometimes they will keep her there on a 72 hours hold( where she will start getting the help that she needs) and hen get her to where she will need to  be long term . Good Luck.

  3. Tell her not to kll herself she has a 6 month old baby, killing herself affects everyone around her, tell her if she is so unhappy to go to the police if she says no then tell her there's nothing more you can do and it's up to her now, remind her it's her baby she has to think about too.

Hope She Can Get Through This.
