Question:

What do I do in order to securely sell the link to my eBook on my website?

I just wrote an eBook, but I don't know how to set up my website so that it can sell the link to the .pdf file. I've purchased eBooks like this in the past, so I've seen it be done but I just don't know how to do it. I'd prefer to use PayPal to sell but if there is another way that has less or no transaction fees, then I'm open to suggestions.

Will anyone explain to me or give me a link as to how to go about doing this?

Thank you!

  1. Paypal is ideal for this. You use something called "IPN" (instant Payment Notification) to tell software running on your site that "so and so paid, so it's OK to let them download the file"

There are a few products out there for the task, if you don't want to use mine, have a look for "IPN Handler".

You could also write your own software if you wanted. The big part is not to trust an IPN without testing the criteria. (someone could "fake" an IPN and you need to guard against that)

  2. Hi Mark,

PayPal really is the best opinion - the fees are comparatively very small.

For instance, if I sell 18 pounds eBook I pay them only 90 pence fee - and I won't find a payment processor for free - there's no such a  thing.

Another option is ClickBank - you can submit your eBook to them and they'll do all the payment processing thing, but they charge a fee as well - 7.5% from the price. However, they are the biggest info product processor and you can get a great market exposure through them!

    Rgds,

    Robert

  3. You need to buy/develop a shopping cart.
