What do I do to burn a dvd?

I don't have a credit card, and I want to burn a vlc video on to a dvd, but the problem is I can only do throe this converter witch has its advertisement that come on screen it was suggested by the good people of yahoo answers can some one pleas help me? (are vlc and divx not the same. why can I burn divx videos and not vlc.)
