How do I make it hard like the store brought ones. The good thing about harvesting red beans is when you replant them they only take 3 days to germinate. You should try it its really surpising.

  1. let them dry on the vine..You can eat them pod and all prior to getting tough...You can store them once dried oon the vine and hulled for 2 years...I do grow veggies 12 mmonths out of the year..look at the pictures(my photo album)...I grow and sell veggies...

  2. The beans you buy from the store are dried (unless you buy them in cans). If you let the beans dry out, they will be the same as store-bought beans. If you buy canned beans, I can't help you.

  3. Don't harvest until the pods are dry, brittle even, but not shattering, of course.  If your weather is really wet and your fear rot, harvest them and let the pods dry atop screen frames or something that allows air to flow all around the pods.  When the pod are paper dry, the seeds are dry enough to harvest and store.  If in doubt, let the seeds air dry once out of the pods.

Red beans can be eating "green" that is the fresh beans cooked and eaten......just zip them out of the "green" opposed to dry pod.  But these guys can't be stored.
