Question:

What do I do when my husband and I have different financial views?

I'm 36 wks pregnant and trying to get our finances in order. I've broken down our bills and expenses to see that we are each month and we are barely making it. With a new baby on the way, it puts us over the top and I don't know what we're going to do. He doesn't save money like I do and his attitude is that everything will just "work out." I can't live like that each month! I make twice as much money as he does, so I know he thinks that my income will pick up the slack, but frankly, it doesn't!! He's not worried about this at all and he won't talk to me about it anymore because he thinks there is nothing to talk about. It's really getting me resentful especially with a baby on the way. I don't know a solution for us. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

  1. Did you consider all that cr*p before you even thougth of having a baby, aren't you suppossed to make a safe, secure nest before you lay the egg? You can not afford to suport other people if you can even support yourself and what's next, welfare?. Now get yourselves straight and start thinking like adults and compromise

  2. You didn't work all this out before you got married and/or pregnant???  Good luck...

  3. calm down. This stress is not good for the baby. Maybe you need to let go a little. You cant control everything. There really is nothing to talk about. Either one of you goes and gets more money or you go with the flow.

  4. Get a separate bank account, and make sure that the baby is taken care of. He will more than likely grow up, but not until after the baby gets here and he sees how much diapers and formula really cost. Men are not planners like we are. Either you getting a separate account will wake him up, or the baby will.

  5. I dont work, but handle all the bills and money.  What we did is added up all our bills and then divided them by 4 (or 5 if that month has 5 weeks) from there we take that money out and keep it in the bank.  Then we give ourselfs a certain amount of money/week for food.  I use like $40 and he uses $70-$80 (he works 10hrs a day 6 days a week so he needs more.) A certain amount goes towards our daughters food and things she needs.  From there half of the rest gets saved, and the other half is set aside incase we need something.  Plus we take out $50/week for gas but we try to make it last more then a week by only going to the store once or twice.  We cut out all the movie channels on the TV, we have cabel but nothing fancy.  Try to cut your food bill down by shopping for whats onsale.
