What do I do with above the line points in rubber Bridge?

When playing a friendly game of bridge, we find ourselves in a predicament regarding the points we have scored above the line. We understand that you have to make 2 games of 100 points each to make the rubber but what we do not understand is how to account for the above the line points. Also how/when does the game end?

  1. 2 games of 100 points "below the line" make a rubber.

Add points above and below to determine the winner of the rubber, or to apply if playing in a match to 1000, 2500, etc., to count toward winning the match.

With the points "above the line", it is possible to win both games and still lose the rubber, especially if someone bid really stupid, like 5 spades doubled but only caught 8 tricks.  If I remember correctly, this is 800 points to the setting team.  But this is how "above the line" scores affect a rubber/match.
