What do I do with all this stuff?

I need to get rid of 1200 sq ft worth of household furnishings, since I'm selling this condo, in a "short sale."

I tried craigslist, but mostly only got pfished. Any ideas? I want to sell everything but "bare essentials" & be without possessions. Then I can start fresh with no clutter, no bills, & no possessions.

  1. you could maybe try a garage sale, or look in the yellow pages and google places and people that need furniture. Put up signs around your neighborhood- there are always plenty of people immagrating and moving house that often need new furniture.

You could also contact a house clearance company. They will offer you a cetain amount of money for everything you don't won't. However, their deals are usually not very good and you usually get ripped off.

Advertise individual items in your local press. You can also go on E-Bay.

Free.com is site you can go to to sell things off

I found this next bit on yahoo, quoted from Stewart W:

A local firm of auctioneers will be able to take your stuff away and auction it at their next sale. Transport costs, commission, other costs, and VAT will be deducted from the total amount the goods sell for, and these costs can be considerable. You will have to wait many weeks before you finally get the money. However, this method is convenient and hassle-free.

This is what I did when faced with a similar situation. I put up a notice in the window of the house, in the garden, and on the gate, announcing an all-day house contents sale. Put notices in local shops, and, if there's time, an ad in the local paper. Stress in the ads that all goods must be taken away on the day of the sale, otherwise people will mess you about. Remember to put the date and time of the sale on the ads! You'll need some helpers on the day; the ideal being one helper per room if possible. I raised a huge amount of cash, compared to what I thought I would get (they were paying money for stuff I was going to throw away), and most of all, I had loadsa fun.

Hope this helps. Good luck selling all your stuff!

(I should proabaly be clearing out my things as well!)

  2. A lot depends on how much you are expecting for the stuff, if you just want to have a clear out, why not donate it to one of the charities that help the needy.
