What do I do with an old computer I want to throw out?

My old roommate left an old laptop in our apartment (un-useable old, as in a Compaq Presario). I'm not even in contact with her anymore. And at this point, I'm moving tomorrow and just want to get rid of it. I live in the Chicagoland area. Can I just throw it in the trash or is there a procedure where I'm supposed to take these things?

recycle it and get some cash :)

I set my old PCs by the trash and in a few hours it's gone.

YOu could post it on craigslist.org as free, I am positive that someone will take it.

Or you could give it to the goodwill...

Please be a little more earth friendly than dumping it in the garbage.  Give it away on craigslist or google a computer recycling facility near you.

Take it to a firing range and blow it away.

Or recycle!

1) Buy a hammer

2) Smash it to bits

3) Put it in store plastic bags

4) then throw it in the trash
