I am 13 and I have an unbelievable amount of floaters in my eye and I don't know what to do. The floaters are like strands and with it there is a small black dot.

I have it in both eyes but its worse in my right eye.

I got it last year in August

So any help ? .....

  1. You need to be checked by an eye doctor.  Most of the time, they are annoying but harmless.  Danger signs are when you, all the sudden, see HUGE number of them, or when they are accompanied by bright flashes.

Usually, there is nothing you can do about it.  Over time, you will get used to them.  (I did)

  2. Hello.  First of all, I'm really sorry that you have to go through that, especially at that age.  That must be hard.  I'm in my 20's and I just got my first one recently.  I freaked out a lot about it, but my eye doctor told me that it's just a shadow cast by some liquid in your eye, that most people get them and that they're harmless unless you see flashes of light with them.  I hope you're not seeing any of that.  Anways, there is actually a surgury to take them away if they are debilitating (meaning if they're sooo bad that you can't do normal activities) but I don't think a doctor will operate on your eyes because you are still too young and your eyes haven't finished growing yet.  I am slowly getting used to my new floater, which looks exactly like what you described (a thread with a dot on it).  I can see it right now, but slowly they will start to fade away and eventually the floaters can settle to the bottom of your eye.  Also, not stressing out about it and not focusing on them is a very good thing to do.  I know you will feel much better if you do this.  Still, you say you have an unbelieveable amount of floaters, and that doesn't sound very comfortable, so I personally think it's time for another visit to the eye doctor to see if something else is going on or if maybe there is something you can do to ease the annoyance.  Your eye doctor may just tell you that there's nothing you can do about it, but at least she can tell you if it's going to be a serious problem or not (most likely it wont be a serious problem).  I think you should go to your eye doctor soon.  But unfortunately, I think the only thing you can do is wait until they fade and go away.

    Good luck!
