Are you suppose to brush your tongue with your toothbrush if you dont have a tongue cleaner? I have...a little problem with my breath. I want it to smell like nothing like other people I know. After about an hour after brushing my teeth, it starts to get that familiar bad odor. It also takes on the smell of the food I just ate. I use a Water Pik, brush 2 times a day, and use mouth wash. I soak my brush bristles in some Listerine cause I saw in a magazine it helps kill leftover bacteria. I have braces so I cant chew gum. Mints wont help much, the breath comes back.

  1. Try Miswak

  2. Normally brushing your teeth and tongue every morning before you make up helps. Bad breath is normally cause by the tongue so brush it well. U dont have to use a tongue cleaner, tooth brush works fine. Just try to reach all the way to the back because that is where bad breath is. Keep using mouth wash. After meals remember to always drink a glass of water and move it around in your mouth to get that food smell away. Brushing before bed is a good idea.

I use to have braces and chewing gum doesn't bother the braces. I never had it stick to the braces.

  3. i found the following information that i thought was interesting at this site

    TED'S REMEDIES

Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "There are several possible causes for bad breath:

    1. Cavities. One small cavity in the tooth with some food in there is one main cause. Get it capped.

    2. Acidic body. Take 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda plus 1/2 teaspoon of citric acid twice a day. Get plenty of sleep so the body can restore the bicarbonate levels.

    3. Brushing your teeth with sea salt powder on every part of the gums and every nook and cranny especially the back gums and teeth both inside and outside the jaws. Extremely important NOT to leave any stones unturned. Do this three times a day. Morning, Lunch and before sleep. If that doesn't work, brush with sodium perborate, use flossing, and prepare a 3% H2O2 mouthwash.

    4. Lack of stomach acids. To drinking water add 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt per liter of water. Or take betaine HCl to restore the stomach acids. If foods are well digested, stomach acids should be eliminated.

    5. Improper digestive system. Usually when constipation comes, it is obvious you will have bad breath. A simple remedy is to drink 1/4 teaspoon of Magnesium chloride everyday and eat more high fiber foods. Avoid all white flours, vegetable oils, margarine, canola oils, sugar. Eat millet or whole wheat. No pizzas, sandwiches, shakes, and ABSOLUTELY NO MILK. Milk will cause bad breath within minutes.

    6. Improper blood sugar. If the body is high in blood sugar, just avoid all vegetable oils, fried foods, soda, high carbohydrate diets and take 9 mg. of biotin per day plus 1 teaspoon of granulated lecithin. This will help body get rid of excess fats and reduce the blood sugar. Vitamin D3 or D4 also works.

    7. No late night meals! The digestive system doesn't work well in late evening!"

also, follow the link at that site to the information about HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

i have used the peroxide myself and was pleased

  4. use mouthwash every morning and night, carry around some of those listerine strips and pop one in your mouth every hour or so.  mouthwash is good for people with braces (and for those without braces) as it gets in the places that a toothbrush cant reach.

brush your tongue as well, i just use my toothbrush for that, i dont have a tongue scraper, but mouthwash is definitely the way to go to help get rid of some of that bad breath causing bacteria

  5. That's natural. I know your orthodontist says not to chew gum, but I had braces and my ortho said it was ok to chew trident gum. That is a small gum that helps strengthen your teeth and prevent bad breath.

Also their is a type of toothpaste that prevents bad breath.

Use listerine and don't just put it on your toothpaste. BUrsh your tongue. Every hour chew a mint.

*also I heard that when you are hungry you have bad breath.

  6. You  need to floss I know its hard with braces however food gets trapped there. Also the smell can actually be coming from your stomach, try eating more fiber with your meals. Try using a teaspoon to clean your tongue, works very well and you'll be surprised what comes off your tongue. Also, try using a netty pot if your prone to allergies or sinus problems, that causes bad breath too. The netty pot (find in shoppers drug mart or health food stores) works by cleaning your sinuses with salt water. Good Luck!

  7. Yes! Yes! Definitely brush your tongue with your toothbrush! (and the roof of your mouth, and the inside of your cheeks and lips!) Your teeth are not what makes your breath smell, it's your tongue! Your mouth will feel and be so much fresher, you'll wonder how you could have ever not done it!

If it still continues to smell, you should go talk to your doctor, there could be something wrong with your stomach.

    Good Luck!

  8. There's lots of non-stick gum [orbit], so it's not like that's out of the question.

Also, yes, brush your tongue with a normal brush or even better, invest in one with a cleaner.

As a last resort, I'd ask you dentist or doctor at the next visit to see if you have a specific condition, because, yes, there are reasons for bad breath.

    Good luck!
