Question:

What do I do with my cat in regards to flea prevention drops?

My cat has not had fleas in a very long time (he got outside once and obviously met up with a stray or otherwise) and I took care of them then. I normally apply the flea prevention drops (name brand, not generic) to the back of his neck monthly and he has no problems. However, lately, I've noticed him scratching and so I investigated. Lo and behold, fleas! I picked probably 10 off him before he got restless, but I noticed that there were no nests of eggs in his coat. His coat is very light and he's a short-hair, so eggs would be easy to find... but I found none. I recently moved to this apartment (in the last month). Does him having no fleas when we moved and having no eggs mean that the apartment had fleas in it already?

Also, I know that I need to give him a bath in order to kill the fleas on him... do I need to re-apply the flea prevention drops?

  1. yea your apartment probably has fleas. Thats why the eggs are not on your cat yet. (I would just gas my apartment).

If you already gave him his flea application this month, dont do it again til next month. but definately either vacuum your apartment daily (use the flea dust) or shampoo your carpets.
