Question:

What do I do with my young kids this summer with all this smoke???

Just moved to Northern California and ready to enjoy the summer with my 6 & 8 - year olds, but we're trapped inside because of the wildfires/smoke!!!

I've taken the summer off work, so that's income that's not coming in, so we have to keep it cheap. They're taking summer sports, that have been cancelled due to air quality!

We live in Roseville, Ca. - any suggestions for inexpensive indoor activities for 6 - 8 year olds would be awesome!!!

Thanks

  1. i was going to suggest getting a wii, but then i realised it was too expensieve, well if you already have a games console you could always get a dance mat, you get get some chep cds, to dance to, and ofcourse, you could go to your local leisure centre to go swimming, or see what other activties are in the paper. =]

  2. Make a wind sock to place in the yard.

Maybe , if the winds change , you could brave the outdoors.

At the least , you will have a pretty lawn ornament.

  3. You might want to try maybe going to visit a relative, someone who lives kind of close, and has fresh air.

But, if you can't, indoors, you can do :

    -crafts

    -fun board games

    -educational video games

-Make up a scavenger hunt or something

(kids like it when you are creative)

    -Have an indoor picnic

-Maybe teach your kids how to cook simple things, or have them help you bake cookies or something

    -Let them invite friends over

    -Museums

    -Skating

    -Movie Theater

    -Local attractions

-go on yellowpages.com, or google, and search attractions in your local area.

  4. When they don't put away their toys take them and hide them.  After you have a few toys hidden send them on "scavenger hunts", for the things to put them away.  They earn points everytime something is found and put away.  At the end of the day tally up all the scores and set a "date" with that child to do something like go get an ice cream.  Or go to the Galleria or Sunrise Mall.

Or take the kids for an all day play at the waterpark near the Galleria.

Or you can set up a "stage" in your living room, have the kids write skits during the day and perform them for the family after dinner

Give the kids a reading list, take them to the library to check out a book each on the list when they've finished the book have them write a report and give an oral report after dinner for the family.

  5. Local Skating Rink - Indoor Water Park - Museums - Bowling Alley - Arcade - Laser Tag Indoor - Crafts - Video Games - Reading. Hope I helped!
