Ive been feeding my 2 baby red eared sliders this turtle food that I got from the guy who gave them to me but he neglected to tell me what it was whatever it is they love it. I tried looking for it other places but I dont know the name of it. I have been feeding them rosy red fish and they seem to like thoes but I cant get thoes every day. I also have food i bought but they have to be 2 inches before feeding them that/

What commercial food should I feed to my turtles who are about an inch and a half?

  1. lettuce

  2. When we discuss turtle lengths, we use the shell length only.

Baby Red-ear Sliders in nature eat meat, period. Ignore any advice that suggests more than a little vegetation once in a while- they need a lot of protein and calcium.

Try a mix of 1/2 good brand pellets (Reptomin offers a baby-sized pellet that is good) and 1/2 live or frozen/thawed (but not freeze-dried) fishy foods like shrimp, small fish, worms (babies seem to love blood worms), insects, caterpillars, krill, beef heart strips, etc. Try http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/ca... for a good list of foods.

Avoid ONLY commercial foods, although they have a lot of good nutrients.

  3. you can get turtle food from almost any if not any fish store.

Also, can you not get a hold of the guy who sold the turtles to you and ask him exactly what it was he gave them?

Call the local pet store and ask if they have someone who knows turtles and talk to him/her for advice.

You didn't say how old the turtles are or how long you have had them for.

PS.  An inch and a half are decent sized.  I would assume the regular turtle diet would be just fine  :o)

  4. ok fish should only be a treat, maybe once a week, because they have very little nutrional value.

any petstore like petsmart or petco sells commercial turtle food in all different size pellets, and even freeze dried shrimp. all you have to go is look in their reptile aisle and you will see it.

in the meantime they also enjoy fresh fruits and veggies like oranges, apples, lettuce and carrots.
