I am an American citizen but after I get married, I plan to move to India. Before going, what do I have to do? Do I have to sign papers, cancel all my insurances or anything else?

  1. Buy a plane ticket. You may want to cancel anything you are paying for like medical insurance. The rest, don't worry about. People are free to leave the USA at any time.

And besides, you may want to come back some day.

  2. seal up your affairs at home.

My wife who came to England to be with me arrived with a suitcase and a smile.

We have been together for 7 years now and married almost 6. She had to finish her house affairs.

  3. I am not sure but if you are a woman keep your citizen of the US intact-Do not opt for an Indian passport-WHY? because if for any reason you ( i hope not) you have  to file for divorce you will not get any help from the US, maintenance, child support etc as well as your court proceedings will be in India and knowing how that country works you will be at a real loss

Do not take dual citizenship either

You can cancel your medical if u so desire but not your drivers license credit cards -

As an  American citizen you have more rights than  India can ever give you

you can inform your credit card company  of your new Indian  address and get 0 payment statements
