Question:

What do I have to do organize a rally or march against a bill that may be passed in Canada?

There is a bill called bill C-51 that I believe should be amended, but I'm very worried it will be passed without amendments, and I want to organize a rally or march protesting the passing of the bill as it is. I would like for it to take place in Edmonton, Alberta and to end at or be at the Legislature Building. Do I need to do anything other than get a whole lot of like-minded people involved for this to work? Should I have speaker(s) at the rally, or speak to someone at the legislature building? What would be the best time/day to hold this, and what is the fastest way to let people know about it? I wanted to do this on Saturday the 7th, but the building is open Mon-Fri. 7-10 pm. Please let me know your thoughts, and contact me if you would like to be a part of this or help organize it!

Thanks in advance :o)

  1. If you get a copy of Elizabeth May's book "How to Save the World in your Spare Time", there is a chapter on how to do this effectively in Canada.  You should be able to get it at any Chapters since you need it in a hurry.  This bill is sneaking in under the Media radar...so make sure you call the local media and give a press release about your rally once it is organized.  You may need a organizational permit, and some place require a couple of weeks prior notice, so ask ASAP about what is legally required.
