What do I have to do to be a Christian?

I used to be Roman Catholic for MANY years, then I went agnostic for about 2 years, now I'm Christian. [And yes, there is a BIG difference between Roman Catholics and Christians.] So what do I have to do? And what usually happens at Christian churches? Any sites would also be helpful. Thanks.

  1. Cover your eyes and say "I am a blind idiot" Three times, and then tada! your a christian.

  2. It looks life you have been given some good advice already.  I agree with you that there is a big difference between Catholic and Christian.  But I do also believe that some Catholics are Christian.

I attend an Anglican church in Sydney, Australia.  It is a great Bible-believing church where you can feel the love of God the minute you walk in the door (at least I did the first time I went to the church).  The teaching is fantastic and the Gospel is always preached faithfully.

At our church we start by singing some songs/hymns, then we have a bible readings, prayers, announcements, more singing and then the sermon.  It is often the senior minister that gives the sermon, but we also have a lot of gifted youth ministers and lay preachers that gives the sermon from time to time.

Our church has three services, an early morning traditional service, followed by a more family oriented service which also has kids church where the kids go to the church hall for Sunday school.  At night there is a service oriented towards the youth at our church.

We also regularly have a communion service where we celebrate the Lord's Supper and Baptism services when required.  Our church encourages baptism of infants of believing parents as well as children and adults who have not been baptised.  If you were baptised as a catholic there would be no need to repeat the baptism again.  however we also hold a confirmation service for those who were baptised as infants and want to confirm those promises made on their behalf.

  3. Understand that your relationship with God is dependent upon you trusting Him. You were purchased by Jesus Christ. As Hebrews 12:2 says we are to keep our eyes on Christ. In Christ, our peace with God is made.

So I wouldn't trade one label for another. Believe God, and as with Abraham you will be counted by God as righteous.

  4. The best way to go about it is to just ask god to show you the way.

But, I will say it's like being a wild horse seeing the rancher come at you with a saddle. You think you are giving up all your freedom all your rights but its the exact opposite. Your flesh is used to being in control and now you are considering giving control over to God.

Your flesh won't like this and expect it to buck for lack of better words.

But, trust me, if you want to know the truth, the truth will set you free.

Also, take a look at all of those answers you got from this question; many have given good advice, while others only show their hateful and vicious nature.

Which do you think will bring you more peace and sound mind in the end?

    Take care and god bless.

  5. In order to become xtian, you have to give up all logic and reason.  You have to put all of your faith and hope in some imagined afterlife, and future reward, and give up all chance at living an honest life here while you have the chance.  You must become convinced that you are absolutely right in the face of all evidence that suggests otherwise, and you must judge that anyone who thinks even a little bit differently than you is destined for eternal hellfire.  This is what it means to be xtian, or at least what all xtians in my experience have shown me what it means.

  6. Just pray, read your bible and attend faithfully a good Holy spirit filled church to , God will do the rest (teaching wise).

  7. umm

    a roman catholic is a christian  >.<

i'm surprised you didn't know that

do you mean you are protestant?

well, pic a denomination first and check out their services. if you like it, that's the one for you.

i'm luthern (UCLA) and we usually have a sermon, a giving of the peace, singing, communion every month, etc

  8. Pray to the Lord accepting Him as your Lord and Savior, confessing your sins, surrendering your life to Jesus.  Accept that He died on the cross to pay for your sins and that He rose again on the third day.

Realize that Jesus will come to live in your heart and you'll be born again.  Over time your desires will change and you'll lose your desire to sin altogether.

Pray each day asking the Lord to guide and lead your life.  Develop a relationship with the Lord, study the bible, join a local church, I recommend baptist church, learn who Jesus is, learn that He is your comforter and any peace or joy you have comes from Him.

    God bless.

  9. well your on the right track Look into Godtube(like youtube) its a place loaded with stuff to make you feel at home and Laugh and  get some good answers , allot of videos, some make you laugh and cry. on here you can see their are a few choices in church.

My church is a non-Denominational church, we have former Catholics , Agnostics, atheist, Baptist. EXT.We believe God made man and woman to be together, God sent his son Jesus to fulfill the Law, and to teach us of this, and his prophecy of the end times, and then to die for our sins, and he came back to life as he said he would 3 days latter , then soon (rapture, the taking of the church) he will come in the clouds(Mathew24-25) and Revelations comes into the play. their is a hole lot more but I think you get the understanding we read from the Bible, our pastor relates to things we know in life now , and OH my he makes us Laugh.

    God Bless hope this helps

  10. You're asking a question that has sent men to war, Kings to excommunicate, and reformists to challenge the establishment.

Ask yourself (or pray/meditate) what you think it takes to be a Christian and the result is probably the best answer for you.

Is a Presbyterian, a Lutheran, a Methodist, a Catholic, a Protestant (from the word protest... as in protesting the church) any more Christian than the next denomination?

I mean, if John Calvin (Presbyterian), Martin Luther (Lutheran), John Wesley (Methodist), King Edward (Anglican Church) etc... can all challenge the established definitions of Christianity and create their own denominations, then so can you.

    Good luck !

  11. Accept Jesus Christ as your God and Savior and confess your sins. Ask Him into your heart and ask forgiveness. If you have not been baptized as an adult, get baptized. Find your self a good church where you like to attend regularly. Repent for  your old life and start to study His Word. Book " Purpose Driven Life " was very helpful to me

  12. its a loaded questioin in my opinion

the simple answer is believe, what you do after that is STEP by STEP, SEEK knock ASK.

Repent, study learn, pray ponder Pray, repent Pray SEEK ASK Knock, repent pray Seek KNOCK pray ASK.

    be sincere, seek ASK Knock

REPENT forsake study pray ponder Pray.

Lol, i know this answer might seem silly, but a true believer does all of things and endures to the end. The BEST of all believers become the best light and truth to take the gospel to the world.

  13. Go to http://www.billygraham.org/SH_HowToBecom... for an explanation of how to become a Christian. If you google "how to become a Christian" you can find many other sites like it. Christianity is more than just a one time decision. You must commit your life to following God and spending time with Him through prayer and reading his word. Usually at a Christian churches people spend time worshiping God in song and then the pastor teaches from the Bible.

  14. Well firstly i aree that catholics are not Christian.

But I would say that you need to ask God to forgive you of your sins and thank Him for sending Jesus to be a sin sacrifice for you. God will do the rest. Nowhere in the Bible does it say to "ask Jesus into your heart", but you can ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

  15. Roman Catholics ARE Christians.

  16. 1.Repent of sins.

    2. Be baptized in Jesus Name(specifically) by complete immersion in water.

    3. Receive the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking in other tongues as the Spirit of God gives the utterance.

    4. Endure to the end.

I would go to upci.org and/or upci.com. That is where you can find info about salvation, baptism, church locations, etc. Feel free to e-mail me anytime. I'd be glad to be of service. God Bless!

  17. Congratulations.

I was a self-proclaimed atheist (actually agnostic) for several years. When I first became a Christian there was a lot of wondering about whether I was actually saved or not.

If you have prayed and asked Jesus to be your Lord and Savior (and meant it sincerely) then you are saved. There is nothing more you have to do to be saved.

But Jesus tells us to live in the Word (the Bible) and to keep His commandments. To live a Christian life, learn as much as you can about Christ and imitate him. (the word Christian itself means "Christ like")

I hope this helps you. God bless, and welcome to the Body of Christ.

  18. I used to be Roman Catholic, too. Now I'm a Bible-believing Jesus follower. I agree that there is a big difference between the two.

I'm not sure exactly what you're struggling with. I get worried when I read about a former Catholic wanting to know what they should *do*. I worry that you might be trying to earn your way into heaven or something. I'll assume that's not it.

There are three fundamentals that every Christian ought to be engaged in to grow in their faith and to strengthen them for trials that inevitably come their way.

    1) Read the Bible. This is crucial. You simply must know what God wrote in order to understand him and your place in relation to him. I recommend one of those One Year Bibles. It tells you the passages to read each day.

    2) Pray. This isn't just asking for stuff. It's telling God how you're feeling, sharing your joy and your struggles with him. It's also about listening. Sometimes just being quiet and listening to some good Christian music helps. Sometimes getting outside is good.

    3) Hang out with other Christians. It can be a Bible study, church, or just hanging out. Getting to know other Christians will help you have trusted friends when things get rough.

One last thing: My personal experience with the Christian life is that I am best able to grow closer to Jesus when I'm serving. If I'm just going to church and worrying about my own stuff the rest of the time, I tend to spiral downward. It's when I'm helping with the little kids, visiting a nursing home, teaching a Sunday School class, organizing a food drive, helping to build a wheelchair ramp, or putting shingles on a roof that I am spiraling up. Find a way to volunteer at your church and you'll have plenty to be happy about!

Please write if I can be of help.

  19. Be born again, strive to live according to the bible while seeking God's will for your life. This will be a lifelong journey.

Email me at tn.minister@yahoo.com and we can discuss this further. I'd like to help you with this!

  20. Open ur heart 2 Christ and surrender 2 him, 4 u will b free from sin and saved by his grace! Go 2 www.planetwisdom.com

Watch "The Perfect Stranger" and "Another Perfect Stranger." It really opens ur eyes 2 the Christian Faith!

  21. Go to different denominational churches and figure out which one suits you best, they all basically teach the same thing.  Better yet, check out Unitarian Universalism where you can be any 'brand' of Christian you desire and still be a UU.  Or even an agnostic, or a pagan, or a Jew, etc.  As a former RCC myself, I understand your search.  But why limit yourself?  A true "Christian" is simply one who follows the teachings of Jesus, no more and no less than that.  Do that, and you can call yourself a Christian.  If you wish to be a Protestant christian, then check out any of the major brands ...Lutheran, Episcopal, etc.

  23. Turn off the capacity for rational thought .

  24. Recognize that you are a sinner in need of The Saviour and invite Him into your heart with a humble and sincere heart.  (Romans 10:9-13)

  25. Since you seem to think Roman Catholics aren't Christians it confirms the fact that you aren't too bright.

You will make a perfect Christian.

A pre-requisite for being a Christian is that you do not have the ability to think for yourself and that you mindlessly accept the writings in a fairy tale book written 2000 years ago.

    Pick a church...any church

  26. Please Read:

    Eph 2:8-9

    Acts 2:21

    John 3:15-21

    Romans 1,3,6,10

    Matt 25

  27. Step 1) Romans 10:9 says:

"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

    Step 2)

    Acts 2:38

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Simple as that. All that is left is to study God's word, build a relationship with him and fellowship with other belivers. And just always trust God.

  28. It appears you are already doing it.  Keep searching and you will find where you should be and let the old person go and the new one in.

  29. You don't have to do anything.  You can't unbaptise yourself.  If another denomination says your Catholic baptism was invalid, they are pretty much bare-faced lying to you.

    (Catholics ARE Christians, btw)

  30. You realize that Catholics are Christian, and that you have left the original church that Jesus set up?  Well, you are dumping 5 of the sacraments, you no longer believe that the Eucharist is actually Jesus really and truly, ie, you don't believe in transubstantiation.  You aren't going to go to confession, you are basically throwing away a lot of things that help you gain grace.  Question is why?  Is being a Catholic, just too much to do, or is it the priest scandals, or is it because you think you might find Jesus elsewhere.  Well I will tell you this, if you can't find Him in the tabernacle of a Catholic church, then you aren't really looking for Him in the first place.  BTW, I saw your earlier q, how is your mom doing?

  31. Ask Jesus into your heart, acknowledge that you are a sinner and you need His blood to cover your sins, and pray that Christ will give you a new spirit.

If you want help, my door is always open.
