I have an English degree with a minor in Professional Education. I was just wondering what is the process to be able to home school my children when they reach kindergarten? I live in Florida.

  1. In addition to complying with the laws of your state, start looking at different homeschooling methods:

    Then choose a curriculum and get started.  You can find reviews at http://www.homeschoolreviews.com

    I would suggest joining a local support group so you can get advice and encouragement from other homeschoolers, and social opportunities for your children.  Here's some information on homeschooling support:

    If you are currently homeschooling preschool, here are some ideas and activities that may help:

  2. You need  to check out and research it on-line for more information about the process of homeschooling, click on key word Homeschooling. I had my baby cousin who had been home schooled for 7 years. It affected him lots of social problems in the end. I have a Early Childhood Education degree, but I rather to have my boys go to private school- Christian Academy, to give them the social skills they need and learn to work together as class group that prepares them for work place as they get older. One in Kindergarten, and other in 3rd grade. Hope you find what you need to do with home schooling your children.

  3. I don't know the laws in Florida but in CA we had to contact the state to spend us paper work, fill it out, got it approved and we were set to go.

    The laws are different in every single state. In CA they are VERY relaxed but elsewhere they can be strict..

  4. 1. Homeschooling your kids isnt a good idea............

    2. Check out the Florida laws and see,

  5. Easy.. according to FL law

    a. notify the county superintendent in writing within 30 days of establishing the home school (not

    required to be filed annually);

    b. give the names, addresses, and birth dates of the home school students; and

    c. maintain a portfolio of records and materials consisting of a log of educational activities made

    contemporaneously with the instruction and designating by title any reading materials used and

    samples of any writings, worksheets, workbooks, or creative materials used or developed by the

    student. The portfolio must be preserved for two years and made available for inspection by the

    superintendent upon 15 days’ written notice, but the school district has no authority to enter the home.

    Nothing in this section shall require the superintendent to inspect the portfolio.

    You also have to provide an annual standardized test, options are

    1) Have educational progress evaluated by a teacher holding a valid regular Florida teaching certificate

    and selected by the parent. The evaluation must include review of a portfolio and discussion with the

    student;

    2) Take any nationally normed student achievement test administered by a certified teacher;

    3) Take “a state student assessment test used by the school district and administered by a certified

    teacher, at a location and under testing condition approved by the school district”;

    4) Be evaluated by a Florida licensed psychologist or school psychologist; or

    5) Be “evaluated with any other valid measurement tool as mutually agreed upon.”

    4. Put your kids in extracurricliars such as dance, softball, soccer, so they keep active and social and once they get older they do have homeschooled choirs, drama, band, track, volleyball and such.

    and

    5. Have fun there will be hard times cause your kids may not learn fast enough for you but remember this is better than them being in public school and rushed through something they are not grasping.

    Hope it helped!
