What do I have to do to join the military on probation with a felony?

What do I have to do to join the military If I am on probation, with a felony and 2 misdemeanors from the same case? If I met all the other qualifications, and scored very well on an ASVAB? The felony is grand theft... and the other 2 are theft related. Do I have to finish my three year probation? Or can I have it lifted to join? My father has been a marine over 20 years, and I am interested in the air force, if not, the marines. Thank You.

  1. With a felony and outstanding probation, the AF will not accept you.  The Marines are having no problems with enlistment either, so am guessing they will refuse your enlistment as well.  The Army is probably the best place to star, although a felony conviction makes it illegal for you to own or use firearms.

.  A recruiter is going to be the only person who can answer this, but I would also suggest speaking to your attorney.  Lifting your probationary restrictions will be up to the local judicial system..they can consider it but don't have to agree to it.

  2. Would you recruit you?

In a group of people (the military) where you have to trust your fellow man/woman, in a job where you'll be exposed to sensitive material...would you try to recruit a guy with 3 theft charges on his record, one of which is a felony? You state that your father has been a Marine for over 20 years, so I guess you want to do that to honor him...but if you really respected your father and his service, you wouldn't be throwing away your life with this c**p.

However, thanks to the new Commandant, that jerk, we now allow convicted felons into our Marine Corps. So...take from that what you will.

And remember one thing: Marines would rather be roomed with someone who had a felony drug charge than one who was arrested for theft...we take that pretty d**n seriously.

  3. If you are on probation then you are automatically disqualified from military service.  Once you finish your probation you can go and see if the you can get a waiver.

Don't get your hopes up, because three convictions will be really hard to overcome.

  4. short answer: you can't.  you cannot get probation terminated early just to enlist either.  you must complete the entire term and the hope to heaven somebody is willing to grant a waiver.

I can bet that AF definitely won't, and Marines probably won't.  SLIM chance the Navy would, None whatsoever that CG would.  Army or National Guard may be your best bet.

  5. marines!

    army!

and maybe airforce!! talk to a recuiter  asap!

  6. Your best bet would probably be Army.

  7. I second the answer to talk to the recruiter, and lay it all out on the table for him.  But be warned that the recruiters are being pushed to get people in, and some are telling people whatever it takes to get them to sign.  You may find one will tell you whatever you want to hear - and that seems too good to be true.  If that's the case, try a different branch, or a different recruiting office for the same branch.  It's worth your time to get straight information, even if you have to drive 50 miles to another town to get it.  What's 5 gallons of gas vs. the next 5 years of your life?

  8. Talk to an air force recruiter and be 100% honest with him.

They've probably seen this before, and they will know what to do.

I'm sure that if the Air Force takes you, your PO will be more than happy to let them have  you.

    Good luck.
