What do I need? 49cc or 150cc?

Do i need a motorcycle license to drive a 49cc scooter/moped in CALIFORNIA? or should get a 150cc scooter and get a Motorcycle license? How long does it take to get a motorcycle license?

In CA you need a Motorcycle license to drive either. I highly reccomend getting at least 125 cc maybe larger so you can go on the freeway. It depends on how you plan to use it. Is it your primary source of transportation, how far will you want to go? If you're going to use it to run errands, or just get to work and back 125 or 150 should be perfect. (The extra 25cc's only give you about 5mph on the top end)

As for getting the licence... taking the motorcycle saftey course is a good idea. It gives you a break on insurance too.

You can also go to the dmv. A written test gives you a permit, which allows you to ride during the day, by yourself. Once you're comfy, go take the driving test which allows you to have passengers and ride at night.

you should go for the 150cc model, it will get you where you want to go at a decent speed. the 49cc's are not fast at all and you won't be able to keep up with regular traffic on a 49cc. you need a motorcycle license for either one so you should definitely think about getting one. you can just go to any community college and take the MFS course, its usually only a couple of days and then you take the test, go to the registry and get your permit, keep that for a few weeks and go back for your actual license. it will be so worth it! good luck!
