Question:

What do I need for a trip to New Mexico

I've been there a few times, however it's only been to the southern half (Carlsbad, Roswell) One of the times we did labor for all of the day, so I wasn't really concerned with what I needed to bring.

This time we are flying into Albuquerque and driving that day to Santa Fe. The next morning we are driving to Taos. This is where I'm confused: It's New Mexico, yet at an elevation of 9,000 feet. Super hot (closer to sun) or chilly?

Also my parents are going to be in meetings all day, so I have 9 days to roam by myself. Any suggestions on what to bring or what to do?

Thank you

  1. Hot in Albuquerque, hot in Santa Fe and hot in Taos. Although it gets really hot in Southern NM, it gets cooler the more north you get. Albuquerque usually runs in the mid 90s this time of year, Santa Fe low 90s and Taos upper 80s. If it is raining, it will be quite a bit cooler, especially at night. You should have a light jacket for nightime cuz it can get chilly at night and early morning.

You didn't say where you would be for the 9 days. I'm assuming Taos. It's a cute little town lots of touristy stuff to do, lots of little shops and galleries to check out, then there is Taos Pueblo and the Rio Grande Gorge. Santa Fe is a bigger town. More touristy stuff like shops and galleries. Albuquerque is the biggest city in NM so there is much more to do there compared to the other two towns.

  2. the weather varies greatly in NM as u said B4 so bring a variety of clothes ..... look around for tourist attractions or sumthin for stuff to do

  3. Bring sunscreen, insect repellent, antihistamine ointment in case you get bitten, aloe vera gel, a hat, shorts and t-shirts, comfortable shoes.
