What do I need for college?

I want to get into a good university. I'm going into my sophomore year of high school. At the moment, I have an approximate GPA of 3.9 (it's actually something like 3.89999997). I have 8 out of 26 credits that I need to graduate high school so far (the average in my school for someone my age is 7 credits). I only have one extracurricular, but I plan on adding on one or two this coming school year. I'm not worried about my credits, because I've calculated it and I'll graduate with more than required.

I'm worried mostly about extracurriculars. I've been told that universities pay close attention to them, but most extracurriculars at my school are sports (which I'm awful at). My band teacher told me that a student with a 4.0 GPA was not accepted to the college he wanted to attend because he had only one extracurricular. Is it really that tough?

  1. By "good school" you  mean ivy league, or a school equal to status-wise, they like "interesting" transcripts. Think about it--they get thousands of applicants with perfect scores, so then how do they narrow it down? Look at extracurriculars. Now, if you're really good in one area, focus on that sport/insturment/art/whatever it is, and maybe take another 'lighter' one for 'fun'. Especially if you're going into your sophomore year, I suggest you do that before the work load gets heavier! Just dont stress out too much! ;]
